Space Zone Report

Read the report: Space Zone Report – November 2020 [PDF] The Space Zone ran from 2 to 27 November 2020 as part of I’m an Engineer. The activity ran for longer than previous I’m an Engineer Zones (4 weeks instead of 2). It also featured more engineers (20 instead of 6). This was to offer greater flexibility to teachers in how, and when, they could take part. This was in response to the COVID-19 situation and greater restrictions and uncertainty in schools. The Space Zone was funded by the UK Space Agency, and the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). Engineers 20 engineers created profiles in the Zone 19 engaged with students through live Chats and/or Ask questions Engineers from a broad range of fields and career stages took part. ExoMars Rover Zone Report – January to March 2020

The ExoMars Rover Zone was funded by the UK Space Agency, as part of the Space Exploration Education and Outreach Award Scheme. The activity allowed school students to connect with different teams who worked on the ExoMars mission, gaining insights into the engineering, science and technology needed to send a robot to another planet. 

The ExoMars Rover Zone was initially planned to run from January – July 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the school closures that ensued, the decision was made to close this zone early. Continue reading

Tomorrow’s Engineer Zone Report – Stay at home 2020

Read the report: Tomorrow’s Engineer Zone Report – Stay at home 2020 [PDF] In April 2020, I’m an Engineer, Stay at home was launched to allow school students to stay connected with STEM during the school closures due to coronavirus. Students could log in and take part whether they were at school or at home, reconnecting with their teachers and each other. The Tomorrow’s Engineers Zone, in I’m an Engineer, Stay at home, ran over 12 weeks as part of the Stay at home activities, instead of the usual two. There were 80 live chats, compared to the usual two week zone average of 16. This Zone was funded by Tomorrow’s Engineers  Engineering Careers Working Group with additional funding from UKRI. 149 engineers created profiles in the Zone, and 146 engaged with students in live chats and answering questions. 125 of these were new to the I’m an Engineer activities. … Continue reading
